When I speak about not drinking coffee with others, I sometimes am looked at like I have three heads. For some folks, I imagine it’s such a crucial thing that the idea of someone not having it isn’t something that they can process. Thankfully, the most important people in my life have adjusted and have stopped offering me coffee. Now like most coffee drinkers, I still wake up some mornings feeling like I’m dragging my heels and barely have energy throughout the day.
The difference is I need to use different beverages that also help provide me with an energy boost without coffee. In recent years there has been an increase in products that help provide natural caffeine or caffeine alternatives to coffee and so my own stock of options is always expanding. Want a free and simple way to boost energy in the morning? Sunlight! That’s right, catching some sun rays is a great way to give you a boost of energy and get your day off on the right foot. Now there are sometimes of the year when there is less sunlight and increasing your vitamin D during that time can be beneficial in place of this.
How to get more energy from the sun? You can sit by a window with the sun coming in, go for a morning walk, or step outside and let the sun’s rays wash over you. It is recommended to get about 10-15 minutes to help with increasing energy and increasing your mood as well. This is also a fantastic way to get more energy without anxiety or those caffeine jitters. Eating Vitamin-Rich Meal to Start Your Day
If you’ve ever struggled with how to stay awake without coffee, the answer might be simpler than you think. Eating a meal, specifically a nutrient-rich meal can help with giving you energy without caffeine! This is one of my favourite ways to how to get energy in the morning without coffee.
When possible try to look for foods that help with not spiking your blood sugar levels, and include vitamin b12. If I feel like my morning is a bit sluggish, then I’ll make sure to have a good meal. I will say you’re likely to feel more awake, alert, and refreshed after a good night’s sleep before moving in the morning. Not only is movement healthy, but it’s a great way to wake your brain, and increase your ability to learn, think, and problem-solve throughout the day.
Now back to movement, you can start your day with music and do some light dancing as to how to wake without coffee, or you can go for a morning walk (and soak up those rays!). Alternatively, you can start your day with a scheduled workout, or exercise routine. If you’re feeling sluggish in the afternoon this is also a great alternative to an afternoon cup of coffee.

I find it helps fight fatigue as it gives you energy and is nutrient dense. It’s so satisfying and energizing, and a bonus is it can be so quick if you’re rushed in the mornings. How to wake yourself up without coffee? Lemon water! It’s refreshing and is a great way to wake up your body! When you have lemon water first thing in the morning it helps with flushing out all your toxins from your systems. As well the potassium levels in lemons help with brain and nerve function which in turn increases your alertness! Lemon water is an option if you’re struggling with how to get energy without caffeine at night as it won’t stop you from being able to go to bed.
If you want to help increase your alertness add an ice cube or two and the coldness will help with waking you up! For myself, I cut up lemon slices ahead of time and then pop them in my tumbler, so I take them with me throughout the day. If you want more energy in the mornings try adding a cut-up lemon slice to your water as part of your morning routine. This also helps to increase hydration!

This is one of my all-time favourite ways how to fight fatigue without caffeine – music! Throw on a killer morning playlist that just makes you want to get up and dance! Music has been proven to boost your mood and help increase your energy levels. Not only that but it can reduce stress, make you feel happier, and increase your mental focus which is a great way to start your day! Be sure to include upbeat and happy songs to start your day!
